This sensitivity is often caused by exposure of the root of the tooth due to receding gum tissue (loosening). The root is made up of a layer of dentin, which is much more fragile than enamel. This sensitivity can also come from a destruction of the enamel, which also exposes the dentin. Dentin hypersensitivity is common especially in people between the ages of 20 and 50 and affects 1 in 3 Canadians. We suggest <em><strong>Sensodyne<\/strong> <\/em>Repair &amp; Protect, with <strong>Novamin<\/strong> as well as <strong>MI Paste<\/strong> Remineralizing Paste<\/li>\n<li>Application of a fluoride varnish by the dental hygienist<\/li>\n<li>Careful biofilm (plaque) control: A new brushing and flossing technique may be demonstrated to you to remove plaque from affected areas.<\/li>\n<li>Change in certain eating habits<\/li>\n<li>Treatment with an agent containing high concentrations of fluoride<\/li>\n<li>Laser desensitization<\/li>\n<li>Covering with a composite (white filling) of the hypersensitive region<\/li>\n<li>Occlusal plate to reduce the clenching of the teeth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section   class=\"o-block animated u-bg-surface\" data-animation=\"fadeInUp\">\n    <div class=\"c-text o-container\">\n        <div class=\"c-text_inner\">\n            \n                            <div class=\"c-text_content h1-primary-700 h2-primary-700 h3-primary-700 h4-primary-700 h5-primary-700 h6-primary-700 sub-title-primary-700 p-primary-700 link-secondary-700 link-hover-secondary btn-primary-700 btn-bg-primary-700 btn-hover-primary-700 btn-hover-bg-primary-700 w-100\">\n                <h2>Causes de la sensibilit\u00e9 dentaire<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Consumption of acidic or sugary foods or beverages<\/strong> causes a chemical process that demineralizes tooth structure, resulting in sensitivity.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/en\/gingivitis\/\"><strong>Gum disease<\/strong><\/a>, or gingivitis\/periodontitis, often causes the gums to recede, exposing the root of the tooth and making it sensitive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gastroesophageal disorders<\/strong> (gastric reflux, vomiting, etc.) can cause dental erosion and have an effect on the teeth comparable to the consumption of acidic foods and beverages<\/li>\n<li><strong>Excessive brushing<\/strong>, too vigorously or with a toothbrush with stiff bristles, wears down the enamel prematurely and damages the gums, eventually exposing the dentin.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/en\/attrition-bruxism\/\"><strong>Teeth grinding<\/strong><\/a>, or bruxism, causes great trauma to the teeth, making them sensitive, especially upon awakening.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/en\/teeth-whitening\/\"><strong>Teeth whitening<\/strong> <\/a>causes sensitivity, but it is reversible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, dental pain can have other causes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A cavity or broken tooth<\/li>\n<li>A mouth infection<\/li>\n<li>A sinus or ear infection<\/li>\n<li>Old faulty fillings&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n            <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section   class=\"o-block animated u-bg-secondary-300\" data-animation=\"fadeInUp\">\n    <div class=\"c-media-text o-container\">\n        <div class=\"c-media-text_inner relative-media left\">\n            \n             \n                <div class=\"c-media-text_media -align_v-align-top\">\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-media-text_image\"\n                        src=\"https:\/\/dentistealdente.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Dents-sensibles-.jpg\"\n                                                alt=\"Facteurs contribuant \u00e0 la sensibilit\u00e9 dentaire\">\n                <\/div>\n            \n            <div class=\"c-media-text_content -align_v-align-top h1-primary-700 h2-primary-700 h3-primary-700 h4-primary-700 h5-primary-700 h6-primary-700 sub-title-primary-700 p-primary-700 link-secondary-700 link-hover-secondary btn-primary-700 btn-bg-primary-700 btn-hover-primary-700 btn-hover-bg-primary-700\">\n                <h2>Factors contributing to tooth sensitivity<\/h2>\n<p>Certain factors can trigger tooth sensitivity on one or more teeth:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cold drinks or food<\/li>\n<li>Sweet or acidic foods or beverages<\/li>\n<li>Tooth brushing<\/li>\n<li>Fresh air<\/li>\n<li>And even just touch it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This sensitivity can be occasional, or even disappear and return cyclically.
